Canada conference to tackle air security

Key players in Canada’s aviation industry are teaming up with government to present the Canadian Aviation Security Conference,
The event will take place in Ottawa from March 29th to 30th, 2006.

The conference will focus on terrorism-related threats to our country’s aviation system and national security, and the corresponding actions being taken by industry and government, as well as our international partners, to address the ongoing challenges posed by these threats.

Co-hosted by Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), Transport Canada (TC), Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA), Canadian Airports Council (CAC) and Air Transport Association of Canada (ATAC), the 2006 conference theme will be: Leading Change: Aviation Security Today and Tomorrow.

It will explore the changing world of aviation security and examine Canada’s response to present and future aviation challenges, threats and security risks.

“The events of 9/11 highlighted the need for drastic change in aviation security. Since then, Canada has made great strides in putting measures in place to enhance security for air travel,” said Jacques Duchesneau, President and CEO of CATSA.

“The Canadian Aviation Security Conference will showcase Canada’s progress and foster discussions on where industry and public sector partners need to continue working together to improve aviation security and public safety for Canadians.”

The conference will address the many facets of aviation security by bringing together key players from government, industry and academia. It will provide a platform for building a consensus on Canada’s approach to aviation security at home and abroad through plenary sessions, keynote speakers and a tradeshow.

“This is a great opportunity for industry leaders, policy-makers and researchers to come together to work on ways to advance Canada’s position as an aviation security leader,” said Jim Facette, President and CEO of CAC. “Canada is on the leading edge of airport security and all stakeholders have a role to play, be it through better screening programs or more secure supply chain management.”

The tradeshow will highlight leading Canadian and international security technology solutions and vendors. Specific topics covered in the plenary sessions and keynote presentations will include technology and privacy, cross-border and harmonization issues, intelligence and security, and transportation of cargo.
