Mandarin Oriental in Japan expansion

Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, is opening its doors in the heart of the historic Nihonbashi district of Tokyo, marking the arrival of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s first hotel in Japan. The first Mandarin Oriental hotel in Japan aims to blend the best of architecture old and new, with spacious guestrooms and innovative restaurants and spa facilities situated on the top nine floors of the soaring new Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower which sits adjacent to the Mitsui Main Building, a cultural heritage property.

Mandarin Oriental’s Group Chief Executive, Edouard Ettedgui, commented: “This is the first foray for our Group into Japan, which is an important outbound market for Mandarin Oriental hotels around the world. The opening of this hotel in Tokyo, recognized globally as a major world city as well as being the largest financial centre in Asia, will significantly enhance our portfolio in this region and amongst the Japanese community,” he added.

The hotel occupies the top nine floors of Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower, with panoramic views of the Tokyo metropolis. All 179 luxuriously guestrooms and suites feature 45-inch flat screen high-vision televisions with 2.1ch virtual surround sound. In addition to 58 cable TV channels including digital broadcast, guests can also enjoy DVDs from their own collection, as well high-speed Internet access on the state-of the-art screens. Guests can also access text messages, faxes, voicemail, and hotel billings via television.

Other facilities inclue seven new restaurants and bars and an assortment of elaborate meeting and banquet venues including a divisible grand ballroom, spacious wedding chapel and fourteen banquet and meetings rooms.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo offers nine luxurious and serene private rooms and suites with a range of more than 40 treatments devised from both Asian and Western-inspired traditions. The range of facilities at the spa also includes vitality pools, water lounges, a dry sauna, a crystal steam room, and an ice fountain, while the fully-equipped gymnasium offers state of the art fitness equipment, cardio and strength machines.
