Island artists celebrated

Eight of Caymans leading artists have been penned to help create a more illustrative picture of the islands art scene whilst providing a forum for the artists to sell their wares.The artists will be working in conjunction with The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort and the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands. Speaking on behalf of the Marriott Mr Chris Sariego, Managing Director of the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort said the Marriott believed in using its resources to make a positive contribution to society.

“The large walls of our newly renovated Resort were the perfect blank canvas for showcasing Cayman’s local artistic talent, and we were delighted when the National Gallery agreed to work with us to implement a programme that would celebrate the exceptional skills of our local artists while also providing a commercial benefit for them as well.”

Ms Nancy Barnard, Director of the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands said she was thrilled to see Cayman’s visual arts scene taking on a life of its own.

“The Marriott and National Gallery art programme highlights a select group of artists whose work is curated by Gallery staff for the Marriott public spaces, and whose careers we look forward to seeing further develop.”

Participating artist, Mr David Bridgeman, said he was pleased to be invited to participate in the programme and thought the Marriott lobby.

“It’s a wonderfully unique situation to see a major Resort using original local artwork to decorate its walls. The fact that the paintings are displayed so prominently in the Resort’s lobby demonstrates a great deal of confidence on the part of the Resort management towards local artists.”
