Capital Remains Most Popular Destination on Cheapflights.co.uk

Cheapflights.co.uk revealed today that London has maintained its top spot as the most searched for flight-only destination in July 2005, despite the bombings of 7 July and subsequent failed attempts on 21 July.
London maintained its number one position above other cities in the top ten, including New York, Alicante and Barcelona).

In July, some 4% of all visits to Cheapflights.co.uk were to the London destination pages.  Yahoo Search Marketing Data on July searches from the UK and US for the search term ‘London Hotels’ actually showed an increase of just over 19,000 searches - interestingly US searches provided the majority of the July increase.

Liz Faherty, Director of Business Development for Cheapflights.co.uk says: “London’s culture, vibrancy and status as a global business centre continue to draw tourists from across the country and around the globe. The Olympics win ignited further interest in London as a holiday destination.

“The terrorists aren’t winning. If anything, interest is going up as the world is seeing how London is coming together and tourists want to support this stand.

“Another intriguing result is the surge in interest in Greek destinations for package holidays. Locations like Corfu and Rhodes, which were ranked as low as 25 and 30 in the top search lists just a month ago, are now ranked at #2 and #10 respectively. The Greek Islands have long been a favourite summer destination for families and many are heading there during the school break.”
