London and Paris Battle it Out

6th Jul 2005

It has been announced that it is now down to Britain and France to who will host the 2012 Olympics. The BBC writes that the rivals London and Paris are waiting to find out which city has won the race to host the 2012 Olympic Games. The other contenders - Moscow, New York and Madrid - were eliminated in the first three rounds by International Olympic Committee (IOC) members. The BBC continued:

The last round of voting has finished in Singapore, and IOC president Jacques Rogge will reveal all at 1246 BST.

Lord Coe earlier fronted London’s final presentation in Singapore, backed by messages from Tony Blair and the Queen.

With the announcement approaching, Paris were rated odds-on favourites at 1-3 on computer betting exchanges, while London were 11-4 outsiders.

Tension filled the air as crowds gathered in both capital cities to await the verdict - outside the Hotel de Ville in Paris, and at a pre-planned ‘party’ in Trafalgar Square respectively.

Tension has been high throughout the Olympic selection. THere is only another ten minutes before the final announcement.
