Continental Airlines
today inaugurated daily, nonstop service between Bangor, Maine and
its New York-area hub at Newark Liberty International Airport. This
new service complements existing daily nonstop service between Newark
Liberty International Airport and Portland, Maine. Bangor Mayor Frank Farrington, along with city and county leaders, were on
hand for the festivities at today’s inaugural ceremony. Representatives
from U.S. Senator Susan Collins and U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe,
Congressman Michael Michaud and Maine Governor John Baldacci were also in
attendance to offer congratulations to city leaders for bringing in the
new service.

“We are very pleased that Continental has committed to providing Bangor
with daily nonstop jet flights to Newark Liberty International Airport,”
said Mayor Farrington. “This exciting new service is a significant gain
for the City of Bangor, our region, and the State of Maine. I am confident
our community will eagerly support these additional flights and prove it
to be a tremendous success.”

“Continental is excited to be returning to the Bangor and central Maine
marketplace,” said Bob Cortelyou, Continental’s staff vice president of
Scheduling. “Linking Bangor to our Newark Liberty hub will provide
travelers with easy access to New York and convenient connections
throughout Continental’s global network.”
