One of Scotland’s most famous golfing hotels, the Macdonald Rusacks, has launched its off-season golfing programme, with the exceptional guarantee that all golfers will play St Andrews’ Old Course.
Overlooking the legendary 18th green of the Old Course, which hosts this year’s Open Championship, this traditional hotel enjoys a prestigious location. However, until now, tee times were only available through the lottery of a daily ballot for the droves of golfers who make the trip to the birth place of their historic game.
A hugely popular hotel with the US market because of its heritage, Macdonald Rusacks is now also set on attracting European golfers, able to make use of the increasing number of low-fare flights into Edinburgh and Glasgow from the Continent. With the prospect of guaranteed tee times and a unique golfing experience, a major European marketing campaign is already underway and attracting new golfers to the Fife city.
Sean Boyce, general manager at Macdonald Rusacks, said,
“Europe is an important market. We’ve seen an increase in the number of Europeans, particularly, Scandinavians coming to Scotland and want to maximise this trend.Ê The standard of golf package we can offer puts us in a unique position to attract continental players to St Andrews, whilst the low fare flights open up new opportunities for a hotel such as Macdonald Rusacks and we are looking at ways to link into this market.
“Many golfers want to visit St Andrews and truly experience the golf here. What we have been able to do is create a package that meets those expectations and which will deliver that experience.”
