Travelers Prefer Beaches

25th May 2005

from a recent American Airlines and Omni Hotels Summer Travel Trends
Survey reveal that more than half—54 percent—of respondents prefer a
beach destination over the mountains (28 percent) or the wine country (19
percent). But apparently the company one keeps—or chooses not to keep
—on vacation is just as important as selecting a destination. Not surprisingly, when those surveyed were asked with whom they’d least
like to vacation, bosses topped the list at 42 percent, while 25 percent
chose not to include their in-laws. Moreover, 14 percent said they prefer
to travel alone—without a spouse or significant other.

“With the Lowest Fare Guarantee on and our vast global network, we
serve destinations to fit every taste,” said Roger Frizzell, Vice
President- Corporate Communications and Advertising for American Airlines.
“For beach fanciers, for example, we’ve just launched a fare sale to San
Juan, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands—and we have many flights
each day to these and other Caribbean destinations.

“We are also pleased to see that 63 percent of respondents named the
Internet and online booking as one way that travel planning has been made
easier,” Frizzell added. “With the convenient fare search options we’ve
introduced on, plus the AA Vacations online vacation planning Web
site,, we offer customers the tools they need to plan
their travel online with ease.”
