WTO Pays Homage to Pope John Paul II

The Secretary-General and officials of the World Tourism Organization have expressed their sorrow at the passing of Pope John Paul II, in a tribute on the WTO website.

Often called the “travelling Pope”, His Holiness was a strong advocate of international tourism and maintained a close relationship with the World Tourism Organization through the Vatican’s special status as Permanent Observer to WTO.

The tribute concludes that John’s attention and thoughtful guidance will be sorely missed by the international tourism community.
