Cozumel continues to grow in popularity

The ever-popular island of Cozumel was ranked for the third year in a row as one of the top 10 international travel destinations by Carlson Wagonlit Travel in their “2005 Travel Trends” survey. In the nationwide survey of 398 Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates and agents, Cozumel moved up in ranking, placing ninth on the 2005 list of international hot spots. According to the survey, many travellers are looking toward Mexico, and places such as Cozumel, this year for their upcoming holidays. Thirty-nine percent of the agents polled agreed that bookings to the country are up over last year.

Fast becoming one of the leading travel destinations in the Southeast region of Mexico, Cozumel’s close proximity to the U.S., vibrant culture, pristine beaches, and multitude of activities, by land or by sea, make it an ideal island getaway. Now with an increased number of U.S. flights to the destination, travellers have even easier access to the island.

“We’re excited to see that more and more travellers are choosing Cozumel, and Mexico in general, as their vacation destination,” said Javier Aranda, executive director of the Cozumel Tourist Association.

“Apart from the fun, adventure and relaxation they typically seek, people crave a unique and more cultural vacation experience. Cozumel provides this for them.”
