Hilton Wins Environmental Award

The Hilton UK & Ireland Environmental Sustainability Training Programme
has been picked from over 750 worldwide initiatives for a ‘Highly Commended’ Award
at the Responsible Tourism Awards 2004. The distinction was collected by Craig
Gardner, head of Hilton’s Environmental Task Force, at a ceremony held on Wednesday
10 November at the World Travel Market in London.Hilton UK & Ireland’s Environmental Sustainability Training Programme, which was
launched earlier in 2004, has involved the training and consultation of all 15,000
employees in the region to raise awareness on how to reduce impact on the
environment. Hilton believes the programme positions the company as the UK industry
leader in caring for the environment and have publicly set a target to reduce
utility consumption across the UK & Ireland estate by 10% by 2006.

Each employee participated in a 2.5-hour workshop, which educated on the issues of
Environmental Sustainability and sought to find ways in which each employee could
contribute positively and specifically. All 78 UK & Ireland Hiltons created their
own action plans, listing a total of 780 separate actions that, where appropriate,
have been considered for company-wide changes.
