Marriott Opens Bethesda North Conference Center

Marriott International, Inc. today
announced the opening of the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference
Center. The 225-room property is located at 5701 Marinelli Road and is
owned by a partnership consisting of Quadrangle Development Corporation
and ING Partners Holdings, LLC. Marriott International will manage the
hotel and plans to employ nearly 280 associates. “We’re very excited to be opening this great new hotel, which is on the
doorstep of everything the Nation’s Capital and surrounding areas have to
offer,” said Bob Daly, general manager, Bethesda North Marriott Hotel &
Conference Center. “This hotel will appeal to business travelers visiting
the many area companies, leisure travelers exploring the area’s cultural
attractions, and meeting planners looking for a great new location to hold
their events.”

Ideal for both business and social occasions, the Bethesda North Marriott
offers specialized facilities and services designed to meet the
educational, training and conference needs of the small- to mid-size
meetings market. The hotel’s 35,000 square feet of meeting space includes
a 23,300-square-foot Grand Ballroom—the third largest in the
Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area—that can accommodate up to 3,000
people for meetings or catered receptions. A 130-seat amphitheater and 12
breakout rooms, nine of which have built-in front screen projection, are
also available. Technological capabilities include wireless high-speed
internet access, videoconferencing, web streaming and teleconferencing
capabilities.

Guest rooms have a fresh, residential feel and feature a luxurious bedding
package, with quilted-top mattresses, upgraded down blankets, oversized
comforters and feather pillows. Amenities include individual climate
control, laptop-sized in-room safe, two-line telephones with voice mail
and data ports, high-speed internet access, cable television with
pay-per-view movies, in-room coffee and tea service, hair dryer, iron and
ironing board, and a work desk with ergonomic desk chair.

The hotel’s interior utilizes classical architectural elements, with
framed openings and doorways that emphasize important focal points and
naturally move guests through the hotel and conference center. Imported
aniegre and maple woods from Africa create a warm residential feeling and
are complemented by contemporary colors and original artwork that features
modern abstract themes.

The Bethesda North Marriott offers convenient access to the many
businesses and attractions located in the Washington, D.C., metro area.
The hotel is just steps away from the White Flint Metrorail station, which
provides direct access to downtown Bethesda, Washington, D.C., and
Northern Virginia. White Flint shopping mall is also nearby and features
national retailers, specialty stores and many restaurant and entertainment
venues, including Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Loews
Cineplex. Other area attractions include Strathmore Symphony Hall, the
Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center and the White House. Washington Reagan
National Airport is 20 miles away, Washington Dulles International Airport
is 25 miles away, and Baltimore Washington International Airport is 35
miles away.

The hotel’s Meritage restaurant offers American-style cuisine for
breakfast, lunch and dinner. Signature menu items include seared Maryland
crab cakes with dijon mustard sauce, grilled mini merguez sausage harissa
and merlot reduction, and walnut crusted sea bass with chardonnay beurre
blanc sauce. Guests can also enjoy cocktails and appetizers in the hotel’s
lounge area, On the Rocks, or gourmet coffee and “grab and go” snacks at
the Starbucks Coffee kiosk. Other hotel amenities include a fully equipped
business center, room service, 24-hour fitness center, indoor pool, gift
shop, guest laundry and laundry valet service. A concierge level with
upgraded amenities and concierge lounge serving daily continental
breakfast and cocktails is also available.
