Piranel praised for innovative use of technology

A hotel based in Shropshire has been singled out in the DTI/InterForum E-Commerce Awards. Piranel Ltd, representing the hotel Stretton Hall was announced national winner of the Mobile and Wireless
Innovation category.Stretton Hall (www.strettonhall.co.uk) is a three star hotel owned and run by a young family in Church Stretton, Shropshire. Piranel introduced a wireless network into the hotel, providing residential customers with free broadband internet access and improving facilities for conference clients. The hotel also now boasts a sophisticated ordering and billing system in th bar, increasing efficiency, accuracy and unnecessary paper wastage.

The company was presented with a cheque for £8,000 by Mike O’Brien, the Minister of State for Energy and E-Commerce at an awards ceremony held on 6 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Mike O’Brien commented, “The E-Commerce Awards reflect that the UK has developed one of the most innovative and exciting e-commerce environments in the world.

“We must continue improving the way technology is used to maintain and increase this competitiveness. The DTI is supporting this by ensuring that advice and resources are available for businesses, and that they have the right skills to implement developing technologies.

“Britain can be proud of today’s winners. They are showcasing best practice e-business. By sharing this best practice, they are encouraging other organisations to really exploit the benefits that technology offers, increasing their efficiency, productivity and profitability, and, ultimately contributing towards a stronger economy.”
