The bmi group of airlines carried 1,001,613 passengers during August 2004, almost nine per cent up on August last year and is the first time in the airline’s history that monthly passenger carryings have exceeded one million. In the rolling 12 months ending 31 August 2004 the total number of passengers carried was 10.2 million, a 14 per cent increase on the 12 months ending 31 August 2003.
Austin Reid, bmi chief executive said: “This month marks a great achievement and an historic landmark for the company, carrying in one month over one million passengers for the first time. In addition, August has seen the bmi group report improving passenger figures for yet another month and the consistency of these results must be seen as encouraging. Our progress remains steady and the outlook is positive but does reflect the tough market conditions in which we continue to operate”.
