America West Disappointed by Outcome

18th Aug 2004

America West Airlines
announced today that its customer service representatives have voted in
favor of representation by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters
(IBT). Of the 3,095 employees eligible to vote, 1,669, or 54 percent, have
voted for union representation. “While disappointed by today’s outcome, we respect the decision made by
the majority of our customer service employees. It is now time to move
forward, together, and continue building a cohesive culture on a
foundation of trust and open communication. Ultimately, our shared goal of
ensuring our customers enjoy their America West experience and bring us
their repeat business is achievable only by working together,” said Doug
Parker, chairman and chief executive officer.

The workgroup includes the airline’s airport customer service
representatives, reservations agents, tour sales agents, baggage service
agents and customer relations employees. The election results were
tabulated today at the National Mediation Board’s headquarters in
Washington, D.C.
