World Travel & Tourism Council report growth in industry

According to a World Travel & Tourism Council report the travel sector has so far generated 15.5 percent of total employment in the Caribbean and this is set to grow by 17.1 percent by 2014.These figures illustrate the importance of the tourism industry to the Caribbean as a vehicle for economic growth.

The survey stated that the travel and tourism industry had directly created more than 814,550 jobs throughout the Caribbean. More over it proves there is a three percent annual growth of employment created by the travel industry.

The travel and tourism industry represents 14.8 percent of total GDP and the forecast for 2014 shows an almost two percent increase. This suggests that the Caribbean region, more so than any other, should be watchful of the industry and make the decisions that will ensure that it reaps the available benefits.
