BWIA West Indies Airways has launched a new intra-Caribbean freighter operation, providing a major boost for cargo movements within the region. The service, which commenced on 11th July, allows cargo to be transported to a wider range of Caribbean destinations on BWIA’s route network.
An example route is:
Monday: Trinidad (POS) - Martinique (FDF) - St. Vincent & The Grenadines (SVD) - Barbados (BGI).
BWIA is using a short to medium range Anotonov AN26 with 3x125/88” pallet positions offering lift of 5,500kg per flight. Freight is flown from the UK on an Airbus A340 with a cargo capacity of 18 tonnes.
BWIA’s Director of Sales & Marketing UK & Europe, Peter Iland, commented “This is a very exciting development for BWIA and for freight transportation within the Caribbean as a whole. We anticipate that demand will soon lead to the addition of a greater number of flights and a wider range of destinations.”
