The reason for this increase is to assist with the funding of the improvement and expansion of the Princess Juliana Airport. This is quoted at $120 million by officials. For internal flights of the Dutch Antilles (Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius), there will be a hike of 3 dollars ($7 to $10).
