Italian Tour Operators Honour Emirates

21st Jun 2004

Italian tour operators have given Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline, a Marcopolo Award, Italy’s tourism ‘Oscar’, for the second year running. The award is the quality benchmark of Italian travel. Agostino Porretto, chairman of Regione Sicilia’s Council for Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, presented it to Massimo Massini, Emirates’ Area Manager Italy, Malta & Iberian Peninsula, at a ceremony attended by travel industry VIPs and guests.

Mr Massini said: “We are deeply honoured to receive this award for the second year in a row, this time from the tour operators who play such an important part in providing our customers with the best possible travel bargains and the highest quality service standards.

“We thank them for their support, and for their outstanding performance.”

Italy has a pivotal place on Emirates’ network, with daily departures from Rome and Milan connecting via Dubai to the Middle East, Africa, Indian sub-continent, Far East and Australia.

The fast-growing airline has won more than 250 international awards since its 1985 launch. It is now the world’s 20th largest and sixth most profitable carrier and serves 76 cities in 54 countries with 67 modern Airbus and Boeing jets.

Marcopolo, Italy’s top tourism satellite TV channel, is in partnership with Tele+/ TV and has more than a million viewers. Its Awards cover five categories: Best Tour Operator; Best Airline; Best Cruise Line; Best Tourism Board Advertising; and Best Travel Agency.
