Wilshire Grand Improves Guest Service With OPERA PMS
MICROS Systems, Inc. , a
leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality
industry, and the Wilshire Grand, one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious and
centrally located hotels, announce the implementation of MICROS OPERA
Property Management System (PMS) to integrate the complex and varied
services and operations of the nearly 900-room establishment.
The only hotel in Los Angeles to have won the prestigious Gold Key Award
four years in a row, the Wilshire Grand offers guests a variety of
business and resort services and features, suitable for the largest
conventions in Los Angeles. These include an espresso bar, four
international restaurants, a Tiki-style bar, 24-hour pool and fitness
center, gift shops, boutiques, florists, salon, travel agency, ticketing
agency, car rental and business center. The Wilshire Grand was also the
first Los Angeles hotel to offer its guests free wireless access in its
898 guest rooms.
Because the Wilshire Grand Hotel serves a fast-paced market, it required a
similarly powerful and fast-paced property management system to replace
its legacy product. Management of the Wilshire Grand Hotel wanted a
state-of-the art technology that could streamline guest services by
providing faster, easy- to-use check-in and checkout functionality, and
could expand along with the hotel’s growth and business strategies. With
the MICROS point-of-sale (POS) system already functioning in its
restaurants and bars, the hotel could easily integrate its point of sale
and OPERA PMS to realize many additional operational benefits.
“We performed an extensive, in-depth search to find the right PMS system,
one that would be scalable to fit our strategy. We selected MICROS’s OPERA
PMS, for its Oracle-based platform and because it allowed us to connect
our food and beverage data with guest data, and capture a clearer picture
of our guests,” explained John Stoddard, Vice President and General
Manager of the Wilshire Grand. “In addition, OPERA PMS allows us to run
our night audit with no system downtime, which is a real plus for business
and guest service.”
“The MICROS OPERA PMS is a powerful property management system able to
respond to various environments and situations. Having a property like the
Wilshire Grand implement the OPERA system effectively demonstrates just
how diverse and scalable it is,” explained Desmond Parker, MICROS’s Sr.
Vice President, Hotel Sales. “We are delighted to be partnering with the
Wilshire Grand to achieve its guest strategy through the effective
implementation of advanced technology.”
The Wilshire Grand Hotel & Centre, owned by Hanjin International, the
Seoul, Korea, company founded in 1994, is located in the heart of downtown
Los Angeles, minutes away from LAX, and within walking distance to the LA
Convention Center, and STAPLES Center. It has 896 rooms and over 50,000
square feet for special events and functions. The hotel is the only Los
Angeles hotel to win the prestigious Gold Key Award for excellence in
meeting services, for four years in a row, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. For
