Old Meets New On the Maine Coast with a 21st Century Spa Atop a Prehistoric Bluff

The Cliff House Resort & Spa on Bald Head Cliff, in Ogunquit, Maine, is home to New England’s newest, full service, state-of-the-art spa, which blends centuries- old traditions with modern amenities.

Opened in 2002, the spa has a 75-foot indoor lap pool, indoor and outdoor
whirlpools, outdoor vanishing pool, fitness center with cardiovascular
training machines, weight training equipment, sauna and steam room.
Services include massage, skin and nail care, body wraps and body
treatments. Stones from the ancient cliff are utilized in the therapies.Says Spa Director Julie Morse-Petulea, “Throughout history cultures have
used stones to relieve aching muscles and improve circulation. We carry on

The Cliff House Resort & Spa on Bald Head Cliff in Ogunquit Maine is the
oldest family owned and operated resort on the East Coast. Established in
1872 by the Weare family, the resort sits atop a 300 million year-old
weathered, basalt cliff.

Nearby the resort are two of New England’s newest golf courses. The
Scottish design of The Links at Outlook in South Berwick, which opened in
2000, is true to golf’s 500 year-old roots. The Ledges in York opened in
1999. It was named New England’s best new public course by Golf Magazine.

The Cliff House offers spa, golf and sea kayaking packages. Three to Five
Day Spa packages include lodging, breakfast, lobster dinner and spa
certificate. The three-night Golf Vacation includes lodging, breakfast,
lobster dinner and round of golf with cart at both golf courses. The Spa &
Golf Combo adds a spa certificate. The three-night Sea-kayaking package
includes lodging, breakfast, lobster dinner, and 1/2 day guided excursion
with lunch. All packages include Maine sales tax and service charges.

on activity, room location and season.)


The Cliff House Resort & Spa has 194 guest rooms, dining room and banquet
and conference facilities. A 151-seat amphitheater, fully wired for
Internet access will open this September.
