The Emirates Group has announced its partnership with the new British University in Dubai (BUiD), reaffirming its commitment to the city’s drive to become a Middle East centre for academic excellence.Opening this September in the Knowledge Village, the university is the result of collaboration between leading Dubai organisations and three elite British universities.

Under the Chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, also Chairman of the Emirates Group, BUiD focuses on academic research and seeks to inspire talent, ideas, innovation and entrepreneurship.

As a partner, Emirates will have the opportunity to help in the development of the university and its research projects, and sponsor students.
Sheikh Ahmed said: “As one of Dubai’s leading companies, the Emirates Group contributed US$3.7 billion [Dhs13.6 billion] in direct and indirect expenditure to the emirate’s economy this year.
“Our partnership with the British University in Dubai is yet another aspect of our commitment to promoting and investing in the community.  We will spare no effort to ensure that the university realises its mission in advancing higher education and research in Dubai.”

BUiD initially will offer only masters-level programmes. Doctorates will be added next year. The University also will offer some short, continuing professional development programmes.

David Lock, BUiD’s Registrar and Acting Chief Executive, said: “The University is delighted to enlist the Emirates Group as a principal contributor. The support of major companies is a vital ingredient to the success of universities worldwide.

The standards of the university are unequivocally Britain’s highest. BUiD’s partners are the Universities of Edinburgh, Birmingham and University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. They all have achieved the top international research ranking in the UK’s research assessment exercise.
