Le Meridien to Open Eighth Hotel in Germany

Luxury global hotel group, Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts is strengthening its position in Germany following the signing of a lease to operate a 281-bedroom hotel in the centre of Stuttgart. This will bring the total number of Le Meridien hotels in Germany to eight.
The hotel, located on Willy Brandt Strasse, closed at the end of 2003 in order to complete a €19m refurbishment by owners, leading insurance company, Aachener and Münchener Versicherungen. Refurbishment will commence this month and the hotel will re-open as Le Meridien Stuttgart in November 2004.
Malcolm Ross, Le Meridien’s regional managing director for Northern/Central Europe said: “This is an ideal opportunity for us to strengthen our position and expand within the German market where Le Meridien already has high awareness. When the hotel re-opens it will be totally refurbished and reconfigured and will be the only internationally branded five-star hotel in Stuttgart.”
Located in the city centre overlooking the castle grounds, Le Meridien Stuttgart will have 281 rooms including 28 suites; extensive meeting facilities, executive lounge, business centre, health club with pool, two bars, one restaurant and parking for 180 cars.
Le Meridien opened 17 new properties in 2003 and its aggressive expansion policy continues with more than 20 hotels in the pipeline to open during 2004 and beyond.
