The third annual BWIA ‘West Indies Pow Wow’ was held in London on Thursday 18th March with tourist boards, hoteliers and representatives from across the entire region attending. The workshop-style event allowed delegates to network and conduct business in an informal setting of pre-arranged meetings from early morning to late afternoon. The meetings provided opportunities to forge new relationships as well as updating existing contacts, and signing contracts for new business.
Delegates from over one hundred organisations attended, with over 30 countries and 117 hotels from across the entire Caribbean region being represented.
BWIA’s Director of Sales & Marketing UK & Europe, Peter Iland, commented: “The BWIA ‘West Indies Pow Wow’ has proven yet again to be an extremely useful event for all involved, helping to develop closer ties between the many different sectors of the Caribbean tourism industry.
It clearly shows just what can be achieved by regional co-operation and BWIA intends to be a leader in this drive for a much broader commercial and marketing effort by the whole of the Caribbean industry”.
The event has now become a regular diary date for many involved in the regional industry and after its third successful year, BWIA believes strongly in continuing the effort and plans are already underway for the 2005 event following next year’s ITB in Berlin.
This year’s event took place at the Barbican Centre in London, Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue and home to the Royal Shakespeare Company and the London Symphony Orchestra. The 2005 location is yet to be decided but, based on the year on year growth, a larger function room will be required in the Central London area.
