Just moments ago at this years ITB Berlin, Lauda Air, Austria’s national carrier, signed an agreement with the Caribbean island of Tobago to supply a weekly airlift service. The flights will be once a week on a Tuesday and will commence in October of this year.Speaking about the signing Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Tourism Hon. Howard Chin Lee spelled out the importance of this contract; “This is an extremely important signing for Tobago, it opens up new markets. As we access more markets Tobago continues to be one of the fastest growing Caribbean destinations.”
“We are hoping for 100,000 arrivals this year and with this new flight I believe it will be possible to accomplish this,” he added.
Lauda Airs Managing Director Mr. Thomas Suritsch reiterated Hon. Lee’s sentiment. “We are looking for new destinations and this is a market which is not too big out of Austria now. We will operate so that we have all of the connections from the Austrian Airlines network, especially the new countries in Eastern Europe. With this combination we are very optimistic.”
Mr. Suritsch also pointed to the fact that the flight will be triangled with another destination. He would not disclose which but hinted at the possibility of the Dominican Republic.
