America West Holdings Files Shelf Registration

America West Holdings Corporation (“Holdings”) , the parent company of
America West Airlines, Inc. (the “Airline” and, together with Holdings,
the “Company”), today announced that the Company has filed a Form S-3
registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the
“SEC”). The shelf registration allows the Company to issue various types
of securities, including Holdings’ debt securities, preferred stock,
common stock and securities warrants, either separately or in units, and
Airlines’ debt securities, from time to time in one or more offerings up
to a total dollar amount of $500 million. Once declared effective by the
SEC, the shelf registration statement would enable the Company to raise
funds from the offering of any individual security covered by the shelf
registration statement as well as any combination thereof, subject to
market conditions and the Company’s capital needs.
The registration statement on Form S-3 relating to these securities has
been filed with the SEC, but is not yet effective. This press release is
not an offer to sell or the solicitation of an offer to buy nor shall
there be any sale of these securities in any jurisdiction in which such
offer, solicitation or sale would be unlawful prior to registration or
qualification under the securities laws of any such jurisdiction.

America West Holdings Corporation is an aviation and travel services
company. Wholly owned subsidiary America West Airlines, Inc. is a low-fare
airline and its 13,000 employees serve nearly 55,000 customers a day in 93
