Steve Porter Honored with Prestigious Oglethorpe Sword

InterContinental Hotels Group, the world’s most global hotel company, announces that Steve Porter, president, the Americas, was awarded the prestigious Oglethorpe Sword on February 7, 2004, by the British American Business Group of Atlanta.

Porter is the eleventh recipient of this ceremonial sword, which is given to the business person, either British or American, who is judged as having contributed the most to British-connected business interests in the state of Georgia during the preceding year. The Atlanta British Consul General presented the award to Steve during its annual flagship Oglethorpe Ball. This group cited Steve’s responsibility for directing IHG’s Americas operations and his philanthropic involvement as the main reasons he was chosen.

As President, the Americas, Porter is responsible for the management, growth and profitability of the IHG’s largest operating region, spanning the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean. He is responsible for a portfolio of more than 2,400 hotels and resorts of some of the world’s most recognized and respected brands including InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites. A 23 year veteran of the hospitality industry, Porter joined IHG in 2001, initially as chief operating officer, the Americas.
