Grand Lido Negril Unites Body and Soul with ‘Fit Week’

As New Year’s resolutions fade and winter-weary travelers nervously anticipate the revelations of swimsuit season, Grand Lido Negril, SuperClubs’ luxurious all-suite AAA Four Diamond resort, provides guests with the antidote to fear and loathing: “Fit
Week” - 10 days pleasantly loaded with carefully designed fitness and wellness activities.
From April 21 - May 2, guests will find new ways to unite body and mind as
they try new sports and fitness activities that may previously have seemed
beyond reach - either intimidating or too costly an investment in time or

In fact, from the moment they arrive at the beginning of “Fit Week,” guests are greeted at the “Wellness Welcome” Juice Bar - with cooling libations of spring water, cold towels and back and neck massages.  Guests on a quest to lose a few pounds during their stay can opt for a “weigh in” at check-in (with a follow-up optional “weigh out” upon check-out). Sporting and exercise activities include Pilates, kickboxing, spinning and Bosu ball balance classes as well as power walks and even a five-kilometer race - all soothed and stimulated by the resort’s beautiful surroundings.

Low-key wellness and spa pursuits include Pranayama yoga, Reiki (energy therapy) class, Ikebana floral therapy, and a “scrubs and tubs” class on creating homemade facials and body scrubs using natural exfoliative ingredients. Some activities can only be classified as “pure fun”- including “Reggaerobics,” a Salsa Steps dance class, and a Caribbean Beach Party featuring Steel and Mento bands and acrobatic circus show.

The themed event aims to provide guests with practical lessons and health tips they can continue to apply on returning home.  For example, classes on juice mixology and easy smoothies emphasize simple and delicious way to incorporate fresh fruit in daily diets, while a class on power drinks uses organic ingredients to bolster energy levels.  These programs compliment a cooking class on “snacking well,” as well as a seminar on “burning calories at home.”

Special speakers during “Fit Week” include Dr. Leahcim Semaj, noted member of the Jamaican Psychology Society, who will speak on “discovering the total you;” while nutritionist Dr. Isadora Tavens will conduct a “stress less with floral essences” session.

The varied menu above represents only a small sample of available activities - as guests will have, on average, 10 to 12 different adventures to choose from daily.

To celebrate “Fit Week,” SuperClubs is offering a special rate on
beachfront junior suites with in-room Jacuzzis (perfect therapy for relaxing sore muscles) during the event - rates start at $294 per person, per night, all inclusive (or rather, “Super-Inclusive,” featuring spacious beachfront accommodations, fine and casual dining, premium brand alcoholic drinks, nightly entertainment and land and water sports). A three-night minimum stay applies.

While the resort’s Fifth Epicurean Escape culinary extravaganza is still months away (Labor Day 2004), “Fit Week” guests needn’t wait to exercise their love of fine food.  The Asian-themed Munasan, Grand Lido Negril’s sixth restaurant - now open Saturday though Thursday - features a classic sushi bar and open Tepanyaki stations where skilled chefs prepare delightfully delicious and healthy fare to order.
