Puerto Rico to host American Express Open

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) has announced that they will sponsor the upcoming American Express Puerto Rico Open, March 15-21, 2004. This inaugural event, celebrating the Puerto Rico Golf Association’s (PRGA) 50th Anniversary, will bring over 140 professional golfers to the Island.The Puerto Rico Open will be held at Puerto Rico’s newest golf venue, the Costa Caribe Golf and Country Club, www.costacaribe-resort.com, in the city of Ponce, situated in the Southern region of the Island.

Puerto Rico offers 20 courses, including 14 at championship-level, and more are on the way. Courses are designed by famous names including Greg Norman, Gary Player, Robert Trent Jones Sr., George Fazio, Rees Jones and Arthur Hills.

The American Express Puerto Rico Open will be the largest professional golf championship ever held in the history of Puerto Rico and the first Puerto Rico Open in over 35 years. The purse of $102,000 dollars will make the American Express Puerto Rico Open the richest purse in the Caribbean.
