American Supports Turtle Creek Chorale Benefit Concert

American Airlines is proud to support the Turtle Creek Chorale’s upcoming
presentation of The Gershwins’(R) Porgy and Bess(SM), a one-night-only
event on Sunday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony
Center, in downtown Dallas. The concert, a celebration of Black History
Month, will benefit the Bruce Foote Memorial Scholarship Fund, which
provides scholarships for minority students at Southern Methodist
University’s Meadows School of Arts. American Airlines employees who are
members of the Turtle Creek Chorale will perform as chorus members and
volunteers at the concert.
“American Airlines says ‘bravo!’ to the Turtle Creek Chorale for giving
our community the opportunity to experience this time-honored musical
masterpiece while also benefiting deserving students. American is a
long-time supporter of this world-famous men’s chorus—the Turtle Creek
Chorale is truly one of the great artistic treasures of the Metroplex,”
said Debra Hunter Johnson, American’s vice president-Human Resources
Operations Support. “American has a long tradition of supporting worthy
local programs and organizations in cities around the world. We
congratulate all of our employees who volunteer in their communities and
make a difference in the lives of others.”

The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess is a timeless love story set in Charleston’s
Catfish Row and incorporates themes of pride, prejudice, pathos, and
passion. The thrilling and heartwarming score is a perfect vehicle for
honoring Black History Month. The concert will feature South African
graduate students currently studying at SMU in the principal roles and the
Turtle Creek Chorale’s Chamber Chorus performs as the one hundred-voice
chorus. The South African graduate students will depart from Dallas on
March 1 for a concert tour in South Africa.

Students and parents from The Phillips School, a private school in South
Dallas, may also attend the concert with tickets provided by the Turtle
Creek Chorale.

Tickets for the concert are still available. Prices range from $15 to $45
and can be purchased online at or by calling

With 31 CDs in release, the Turtle Creek Chorale is the most-recorded male
chorus in history and has performed extensively throughout the United
States and Europe. In 1995, the Turtle Creek Chorale was the subject of an
Emmy Award-winning television documentary “After Goodbye: An AIDS Story.”
More than 200 members volunteer in excess of 100,000 hours annually to
community service and performance.
