The New Montage Resort & Spa, Laguna Beach

Striking turn-of-the-century architecture, pristine white sand beaches, and the historic and artistic charm of a quiet seaside village all converge at Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach, the new beachfront luxury resort with heart-stopping panoramas of the Pacific.Inspired by the breathtaking physical surroundings and the enduring creative spirit of the artists who settled in Laguna Beach nearly a century ago, this new coastal destination opened its doors on February 2003.

The 262-room resort is situated on 30 verdant acres in the heart of Laguna Beach and features distinctive wood and stone craftsman-style architecture, complimented by lush, indigenous landscaping with winding pathways.

“A ‘montage’ is a composite of closely juxtaposed elements,” says Alan Fuerstman, the founder, president and chief executive officer of Montage Hotels & Resorts. “This term aptly captures the flavor of this unique resort, which was painstakingly designed to reflect the history and artistic appeal of Laguna Beach, while taking oceanfront luxury to a new level of sophistication.”

The resort is the flagship property of Fuerstman’s newly formed hotel operating company, which is focused on serving the affluent traveler.

With an eye on Laguna Beach’s rich cultural heritage, the resort has been carefully designed and landscaped to evoke California’s unique “relaxed elegance,” reflecting the area’s artistic roots and seamlessly harmonizing with the rugged coastal backdrop.

Showcasing traditional elements such as classic stone architecture, wainscoting, crown moldings, rich dark wood, copper gutters and shingle-style roofing, the resort is designed in a handsome craftsman-style, with a polished mix of period furnishings, artwork and décor -masterfully capturing a bygone era.

The resort’s luxurious accommodations beckon guests to intimately experience the raw beauty of the powerful surf and vast shoreline. Each boasting awe-inspiring ocean panoramas, rooms range from 500-square-foot standard guestrooms to 1,000-square-foot suites to the 2,800 square-foot Presidential Suite (with a two-sided fireplace). The more secluded beach bungalowstyle rooms are situated separately, near the croquet lawn.

A talented culinary staff oversees Montage Resort & Spa’s four dining venues, including The Loft, a casual, all-day ocean view restaurant; Mosaic Grille, a relaxing bluff-side terrace; and the Lobby Lounge for enjoying afternoon tea, spirits and entertainment.

A resort showpiece, the 20,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor oceanfront Spa Montage encourages guests to enjoy fresh sea breezes and watch the breaking waves, while undertaking an invigorating workout or a soothing yoga session.

The spa offers comprehensive programs and a la carte services ranging from herbal and hydrotherapy body treatments to fitness consultation and classes such as aerobics, beachside yoga and Tai Chi.

The oceanfront facilities, with floor-to-ceiling windows to fully capture the breathtaking vistas, feature: a full-service beauty salon; a lap pool; a fitness room with state-of-the-art weights and machines; a yoga/aerobics studio and boutique.

A total of 21 treatment rooms include: 12 massage rooms; four facial treatment rooms; two hydrotherapy rooms; and three specialty indoor/outdoor rooms that can be used for a single or couple’s massage or hydrotherapy treatment.

Separate male and female club-style locker rooms feature: a relaxation room with a fireplace; shower, steam and sauna area; and an outdoor Jacuzzi and cold plunge.
