Welsh under 17 cricket takes St. Lucia by storm

Welsh secondary school boys’ cricket team, Monmouth arrived in St. Lucia this week to take on local secondary schools in five limited overs matches. The Welsh team is expected to play local secondary school teams over a ten day period and matches are set to begin on Friday.  This was made possible through a collaboration between Gulliver’s Sport Travel (the leading sports tour operator in the United Kingdom) and the St. Lucia Tourist Board.In the first match the Welsh team will play Leon Hess on Friday December 12th at the Beausejour Cricket Ground, followed by the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School on Monday December 15th at the Mindoo Phillip Park. The team will also play George Charles Secondary School at the Bexon playing field on Tuesday December 16th and on Wednesday December 17th Monmouth will travel to the Phillip Marcellin playing field in Vieux-Fort to play the Southern under 17 team. The last match in the secondary school tour bowls off at the Gros- Islet playing field against St. Mary’s College Friday December 19th.Matches will be 35 overs per side and will be played from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The visiting 16 man squad will be accompanied by six representatives from Gulliver’s Sport Travel. Norman Davies the Tour Consultant for Gulliver’s Sport Travel who inspected the grounds earlier this year has previously organised tours to Barbados, Trinidad and Grenada.The touring team will stay at the Bay Gardens Inn and will also be involved in a number of social engagements including a meeting with President of the St. Lucia Cricket Association Trevor Phillip. The young cricketers will are also expected to do some shopping, sightseeing and visit the Gros-Islet Street Party.
