Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Selects MICROS to Manage Landmark Hotels

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has selected MICROS Systems, Inc. OPERA PMS for use in four of it’s luxury hotels, beginning with The Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto, Canada. The OPERA installation in the 1,365-room luxury flagship hotel was the first in a series that included The Fairmont San Francisco, The Fairmont Dallas and The Fairmont New Orleans—all preeminent business hotels.



By selecting OPERA to manage its establishments, Fairmont plans to enhance the guest experience with streamlined services and improved customer relationship management. “We continually look for ways to serve our guests better and OPERA captures the data we need to anticipate our guests’ requirements. We were also impressed with the smooth implementation process; MICROS’s implementation professionals made the system conversion as simple as possible for our staff and with no impact to our guests,” stated Francisco Gomez, Regional Vice President and General Manager of Fairmont Royal York.



OPERA PMS beats competitors on functionality
Fairmont selected OPERA as a property management system that would have the features, ease of use, and integration capabilities required. “Since committing to the right system was extremely important to us, we conducted a extensive RFP [request for proposal] process evaluating 14 competitive property management systems. OPERA ranked highest across all categories,” explained Vineet Gupta, Fairmont’s Vice President of IT.



Fairmont is making extensive use of the OPERA Xchange XML interface to achieve 2-way synchronization of reservations and room inventory with Fairmont’s existing Central Reservation System. The installations also use this module to export departed guest data into Fairmont’s Guest Data Warehouse which supports many of the Fairmont corporate programs, including Fairmont’s President’s Club. “OPERA’s advanced technology is in line with Fairmont’s vision of integrating market leading applications into its infrastructure, and layering on additional capabilities developed in-house in order to provide the properties and the Fairmont brand a competitive edge when making any key decisions,” noted Mr. Gupta.
