Orbitz Improves its Website

Orbitz has redesigned its website to make it easier for both business and leisure travelers to book flights, hotels and cars with fewer clicks.

Among the new features are the ability to book up to nine tickets at a time for small groups or families traveling together, easier navigation and searching, an option for finding flights and fares at alternate airports within a 70-mile radius of major airports, and easier access to real-time flight information.

During the summer, Orbitz said it had sent alerts to nearly two million travelers about weather and other flight delays. The site also has general travel tips. Two examples: depart as early as possible when flying East because disruptions from summer thunderstorms tend to come in the afternoon; book later flying West because low-lying morning fog along the Pacific can cause disruptions.

‘‘Travelers told us that booking on the Web still wasn’t as easy as it should be,’’ said Jeff Katz, president and chief executive of the online booking site.
