A Brand New ‘Country Club’ For London
London and the UK health, fitness and leisure market will witness a completely new concept in the new year with the dynamic arrival of the Amida Racquets & Fitness Spa and Amida Golf.Close to Richmond and set within 70 acres of grounds, this innovative project from Amida will dedicate itself to ‘total wellbeing’ and offer the capital its first true spa-cum-country club experience.
Located between Hampton and Twickenham, Amida Racquets & Fitness Spa and Amida Golf will feature a five-star resort-style spa; a revolutionary 200 station state-of-the-art gym; four group exercise studios; a 25 metre swimming pool; four squash and three badminton courts; 10 outdoor Grand Slam tennis courts; poolside restaurant and bar plus a private conference/meeting room. Golfers will head to Amida to take advantage of the 9-hole pay-and-play golf course, also to discover a golfers’ academy, bar, viewing balcony and pro-shop. One will completely forget that Central London is just eight miles away when also making the most of the outdoor terraces and the Japanese garden.
The Amida Racquets & Fitness Spa stretches across 7,000 square metres and two floors with a dramatic mezzanine level, housing the gym and overlooking the central swimming pool. To create this project, Amida appointed one of the UK’s leading spa architecture and design teams, Corporate Edge, who also designed sister property - Amida Beckenham - which opened two years ago and has been named ‘UK Day Spa of the Year 2003’ by Professional Beauty Magazine.
London’s Amida Spa will combine ancient Eastern philosophies with Western technology and there will be a choice of heat, steam and water features courtesy of the Hydrotherapy Spa, Relaxation Pool, Plunge Pool, Sauna, Sanarium and Steam Room while a choice of over 70 individual treatments and special packages will be available in the eight luxurious therapy rooms.
Corporate Edge has worked with Amida in redefining the modern gym, consigning rows of equipment with TVs hanging from the walls to the past in favour of a ‘starburst’ design. Emanating from a central hub, this layout will also involve each cardio-vascular machine being fitted with integral TV screens and an interactive tracking system.
Dedicated ‘Stretch’ and ‘Free Weight’ areas have also been incorporated into this spectacular, airy and open space along with four group exercise studios (RPM, Aerobics, Yoga and Pilates) where classes will range from the conventional to cutting-edge approaches. A dynamic lighting system will enhance the atmosphere, adapting to the different times of the day.
The latter will allow users to chart their progress and discuss their programmes with their Fitness Consultant while at the club and when off-site too.
The Amida Racquets & Fitness Spa and Amida Golf has been incredibly well received by the public to date with 2500 competitively-priced memberships already sold during the first two months of the pre-opening sales period. ‘Individual’, ‘Partner’, ‘Corporate’, ‘Off-Peak’, ‘Student’ and ‘Nanny’ are just some of membership options being promoted - while Day Spa packages are available too.
For those wanting to combine an Amida visit with an overnight stay in London, a special package will feature hotel accommodation at The Petersham in Richmond.
The premier membership option will be the ‘Elite Membership’, boasting a superbly luxurious changing suite and added privacy levels among its range of extra member benefits.
“A true ‘club’ atmosphere, with various social activities devised to help shrug off the stresses and strains of everyday urban life, will also be on offer at the Amida Racquets & Fitness Spa and Amida Golf,” confirms Graham Thomas, Chief Executive of the £20 million project. “To make the most of our promise for ‘total wellbeing’, members can unwind here and meet up with friends in the bar or restaurant, read the papers, participate in a lively calendar of events and enjoy the outdoors.
Just visiting for a meal will be an attraction in itself - followers of Big Brother may be particularly interested to hear that ‘Gos’ (Hersender Gosalaka) has recently been appointed as our Head Chef.
“Individual coaching, sports courses, exercise classes, sporting leagues and competitions will also be available to club members,” adds Graham.
