Barcelona’s Gran Hotel La Florida Opens Luxury Spa

Once frequented by the beautiful and famous including writer Ernest Hemingway who found inspiration there, actors James Stewart, Rock Hudson and Zsa Zsa Gabor, the newly renovated five star Gran Hotel La Florida in Barcelona, has opened its luxury spa enabling guests to look and feel beautiful whilst enjoying the culture and sophistication of this stylish, cosmopolitan city.
Located on Mount Tibidabo with spectacular views over the city of Barcelona and the
Mediterranean Sea, Hotel La Florida reopened in April 2003 after nearly four years of extensive renovation.
Beautifully restored, the hotel features the best of Barcelona’s contemporary design and is almost an art gallery in itself with spectacular sculptures and furnishings throughout by world leading artists.
La Florida’s newly opened spa maintains the contemporary feel with grey slate walls, subtle lighting and a crystal clear 37 metre edgeless stainless steel swimming pool that runs from inside to out with the illusion of spilling down the side of the mountain into the city.
A long wall of projected interactive visual effects makes a relaxing backdrop by day and a dramatic setting for late-night dancing.
The spa also features a state-of-the-art gymnasium, sauna, solarium, steam bath, Hamman, a hairdressing salon and beauty rooms, under direction of the well known Spanish professional team of Carlos Oliveras, who offers the latest in treatment technology.
Brands include Spain’s leading skincare company, Natura Bissé whose products contain high concentrations of active ingredients and treatments include therapeutic and relaxing massages, facials and body remoulding.
The hotel has 74 rooms and suites many with private Jacuzzis and breathtaking panoramic views, some of which have been designed by international artists Rebecca Horn, Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu.
Other facilities include L’Orangerie Barcelona with Mediterranean cuisine, The Miramar Bar, Club Luna nightclub and modern conference facilities.  A shuttle bus operates between the hotel and the city centre free of charge from 10.00 to 18.00 hours.
Gran Hotel La Florida offers a range of packages. Special accommodation offers for this autumn prices start at £193 (275 Euros) per double room on a bed and breakfast basis.
