Pangkor Laut Resort recently won the ultimate accolade at the CondÌ© Nast Traveller Readerså’ Travel Awards, walking off with the å‘Number One in the Worldå’ award, as well as winning the å‘Best Overseas Destination Spaå’ category.
The resort was voted Number One in this year’s sixth annual Readers’ Travel Awards’ Top 100 list by the readers of Condé Nast Traveller U.K., who nominated what they think is the best that the world of travel has to offer, from hotels and spas to airlines and airports. Pangkor Laut Resort beat prominent names such as Hotel Cipriani, Venice, Sandy Lane, Barbados and Four Seasons Hotel, New York, as well as destinations such as the Maldives, Italy and Australia.
In the ‘Best Overseas Destination Spa’ category, Pangkor Laut Resort’s luxurious Spa Village outshone Ananda in the Himalayas, India and Chiva-Som International Health Resort, Thailand. The Spa Village, which opened its doors last year, scored an impressive 85 points and above for all nine categories with the highest rank for its range of treatments.
The citation, in Condé Nast Traveller’s issue, reads: “For unadulterated indulgence, there is nowhere else you’d rather be than the private island of Pangkor Laut Resort in Malaysia. Long a favourite, it went straight to the top of the Overseas Destination Spa category this year, its new sensational Spa Village winning it sufficiently high scores to ensure that Pangkor Laut Resort also made the number one spot in our ‘best of the best’ Top 100.”
Sarah Miller, Editor of Condé Nast Traveller presented both these awards to Dato’ Mark Yeoh, President of YTL Hotels and Properties Sdn Bhd. Commenting on the awards garnered, Dato’ Mark Yeoh said: “I am absolutely delighted that Pangkor Laut Resort has been presented with these awards, which confirms that this private island hideaway is the ultimate destination for the UK Condé Nast Traveller readers.”
Pangkor Laut Resort is the ideal romantic hideaway and has had the honour of hosting international celebrities such as glamorous honeymooners Joan Collins and husband Percy Gibson. Golfer Nick Faldo and wife Valerie raved about its style and service, whilst world renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti declared “I almost cried when I saw how beautiful God had made this paradise.”
Readers of Condé Nast Traveller U.K, previously voted Pangkor Laut’s Estates as ‘One of the World’s 25 Best Beach Houses 2002’ and the Resort was ranked second in the ‘Best Island in the World 1999’ category. Pangkor Laut Resort was the first Malaysian resort/hotel to be awarded the prestigious Five Star Diamond Award 2002 and 2003 by The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.
The Resort’s Spa Village has received numerous international accolades, most recently being named one of the “Top Ten Most Luxurious Spas” by Tatler U.K., September 2003. It won “Best Resort Spa” at the Harpers & Queen UK Travel Awards 2002. The Spa Village is a unique retreat that pays tribute to the healing cultures of the region. Malaysia, with its diverse history of people and cultures, and a vast profusion of natural resources, provides the backdrop for health rituals that are amongst the oldest in the world. The abundance of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Thai practices makes this the ideal setting for complete rejuvenation.
