No longer a rarity, more a way of life, global executive travellers have come to view the spa experience as a necessity for maintaining well being and personal productivity. As a result, spa has become a major focus for the hospitality industry in recent years. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts continues to propel the spa experience to a new level, through innovative design thatå‘s one with the environment, with indigenous treatments for mind, body and soul and sensitive services that pamper and restore.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has been delighting guests for over 15 years with tantalising spa treatments to soothe and satisfy. The company’s first spa at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas opened in 1986, and the spa evolution took on greater momentum in the 1990’s when resorts were opened in Bali at Jimbaran Bay and Sayan.
Four Seasons continues to address guest demands and respond to the growing sophistication of spa visitors by offering unique facilities, products and treatments in one-of-a-kind environments. And, whether a city escape or a tropical retreat, a single treatment or a luxurious package, each guest experiences Four Seasons signature highly personalised, anticipatory service perfect for personal renewal.
In the Beginning
It began in 1985 when Isadore Sharp, Four Seasons founder, chairman and chief executive officer, became interested in the potential for creating a spa experience in a luxury hotel setting. After attending a spa retreat in the Southwest, he made the decision to feature a full-service spa at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas.
Subsequently, top Four Seasons executives toured spa facilities across North America to learn more from recognised experts and to begin creating spa experiences that were distinctly Four Seasons. As new resorts, such as Bali, Hawaii and Mexico were added to the company’s portfolio, true indigenous therapies were combined with traditional services to create unique experiences inspiring total wellness. With the addition of new urban spa retreats at Four Seasons hotels in Paris, Los Angeles and Cairo, the international traveller now has the opportunity to savour a unique spa experience in more places around the world.
Harmony of Locale and Ingredients
Innovative spa design is a key factor in achieving harmony with the environment. At Four Seasons resorts, for example, the spa facilities reflect the beauty of the surroundings, while in the urban centres, the spas embody the urban chic of their own city setting.
Drawing further on the environment, many Four Seasons spa treatments are designed to incorporate natural ingredients from local sources. At the Kuda Huraa resort in the Maldives, extracts of rare Asian herbs form the basis of a lotion used in facials and in Tokyo the spa offers Japanese Onsen baths filled with filtered spring water from the Izu Peninsula. At Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka’upulehu on Hawaii’s Big Island, aromatherapy treatments may incorporate a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage with oils traditionally blended on the island.
Spa with Anticipatory Service, Uniquely Four Seasons
Known to discriminating travellers around the world for its highly personalised service, Four Seasons aims to provide the ultimate in pampering and personal renewal with its spa offerings. A broad range of treatments has been specially designed to fulfill specific needs (e.g. to counter jet-lag, to relieve aching joints, to build muscle tone or eliminate skin toxins), and often can be offered in a guest room or suite for total privacy.
Wolf Hengst, Four Seasons President, Worldwide Hotel Operations, observes, “No longer is a spa merely a place to go after a workout, to take a steam bath and get a massage. The spa of today has been transformed into a multi-faceted aesthetic experience, promising relaxation, rejuvenation and personal reflection.”
The spa experience is complemented by sports and fitness facilities, and by an inspired selection of nutritionally balanced, healthier cuisine. Proven to relieve tension, stress and improve total well-being, exercise and healthy dining choices complement the effect of the spa. When combined, these elements shape the total wellness experience into a tonic for body, mind and soul - distinctly and uniquely Four Seasons.
