Houston’s Hotel Icon Appoints General Manager

Troy Bennett has accepted the position of general manager for Houstonå‘s Hotel Icon, a next generation concept in personalised luxury hotels, targeted for completion in December 2003. The hotel is hailed as the motivation and blueprint for an entirely new sensory experience from Benchmark Hospitality.


As a culmination of over twenty-five years innovative operation and development of premium hotels and resorts by Benchmark Hospitality, the hotel will offer new and unique standards of services and facilities.
The lower lobby level of Hotel Icon will house a well-appointed spa, salon and round-the-clock executive fitness facilities. Complete with five secluded treatment suites, the spa will be fitted with state-of-the art equipment to offer a comprehensive menu of services, which will include, among other therapies for men and women; jet lag treatments for overseas visitors, massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, hair and makeup. Each of Hotel Icon’s 135 guestrooms will also offer select spa services.
Bennett, who holds a degree in business administration, secured his first hotel job at age 15 and has held general manager roles for the past 14 years. He has built a reputation as an industry young gun, known for his tremendous creativity and enthusiasm.
An unerring commitment to achieving total guest and associate satisfaction, throughout his more than two decades in the hospitality industry, was an important factor in Bennett’s selection for the post, as the caliber of staff the hotel will retain is tantamount to providing what will be an anticipatory level of service.
The company states; “Associates at all levels and areas of responsibility will be given the directive of unobtrusively cataloguing the requests plus the likes and dislikes of every visitor. Details ranging from food and pillow preferences to musical tastes and even furniture placement will be used to construct a comprehensive guest history, ensuring each successive stay feels more like a homecoming. Bennett’s skill at developing unique, upscale destination environments and pursuing excellence makes him an ideal fit for his new role”.
Additionally, Bennett’s eye for detail and hands-on approach in all facets of previous pre-opening and restoration/renovation projects have already come in to play, while working with the hotel’s design team to create a regal atmosphere that balances style and substance, within a landmark, 1911 bank, for the ultimate visitor experience.
Prior to joining Hotel Icon, Bennett was the managing director of the 140-room Casa Monica Hotel, a destination resort in St. Augustine, FL, for four years. During this time, he oversaw an extensive, two-year, $25-million restoration and was credited with returning the landmark, 114-year-old property, once owned by Henry Flagler of The Breakers (Palm Beach, FL) fame, to its former glory. His dedication to the project’s triumphant re-launch resulted in both Four-Star and Four-Diamond ratings, as well as membership in Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and Historic Hotels of America.
