Hotel Icon to Engage the Senses for a New Generation

Huston’s Hotel Icon, debuting December 2003, is being hailed as a next generation concept in personalised luxury hotels. As the motivation and blueprint for an entirely new experience from Benchmark Hospitality, it is the culmination of over twenty-five years innovative operation and development of premium hotels and resorts.

Described as a destination within a destination, where exemplary service is the standard, Hotel Icon promises to engage the senses with experiences that combine the past, present and future.
The highly-anticipated rebirth of Huston’s historic 1911, landmark 12-story property, now home to Hotel Icon, was originally designed for the Union National Bank by the St. Louis architectural firm of Mauran, Russell & Crowell. Presenting an intriguing alternative to mainstream four-star hotels and a departure from the boutique hotel concept, Hotel Icon will evoke the opulence and attention to detail evident in the grand hotels of the early 1900s, on a more intimate scale.
The interior, created by the award-winning San Francisco firm of Candra Scott & Anderson, which specialises in the historic reinvention of landmark hotels, has designed towering, 30-ft Corinthian columns, expansive windows, ornate ironwork and intricately carved ceiling, so that guests can experience an environment that precisely captures the glory of a bygone era. This will be further enhance by rich textures, plush fabrics and an eclectic collection of original European objects d’art, chosen specifically for the site.
With a promise of ‘pampering around every corner’, the lower lobby level of Hotel Icon will house a well-appointed spa salon and round-the-clock executive fitness facilities to promote health and wellness while travelling and minimise interruption of routines. Complete with five treatment suites, the spa will be fitted with state-of-the art equipment to offer a host of spa services for both men and women. Each of Hotel Icon’s 135 guestrooms will also offer select spa services.
The Benchmark Hospitality award-winning approach to service and design has established a loyal clientele of top business executives, international dignitaries and political figures from around the world. With each property distinctive in location and character, it has a unique ability to create environments that expertly combine business and leisure functions, wherever the setting. The company says of Hotel Icon;
“Guests can engage their senses at Houston’s Hotel Icon, a next generation concept in personalised luxury hotels. Tantalise the taste buds with a signature culinary experience by world-renowned chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and savor the stimulation of the city’s most exclusive gathering place, as envisioned by Rande Gerber and Midnight Oil.
