British Pool Industry Manufacturer Dies

Founder and Chairman David Price, of Power Plastics Limited, a pool service provider for nearly four decades, has died suddenly aged 63.

Hertford born and Cambridge educated, David Price founded his company in Leeds in 1973 and relocated to the North Yorkshire town of Thirsk in 1989 where, along with a dedicated team, built a business which now occupies a 20,000 sq ft factory and employs 40 people with a turnover of £2.5m.

Price was particularly proud of having extended the Power Plastics business into Europe, Africa, Australia and the Far East.

Five of Power Plastics Senior Managers have clocked up almost 80 years` service between them and several employees have seen 20 years with the company, testament to the tremendous loyalty David Price inspired.
Colleagues said, “He was known to be a fair-minded, hard working man who didn`t stand on ceremony and believed in plain speaking.

Following an ownership restructuring within the company at the end of last year, which saw senior managers taking a 40 percent shareholding, price was planning for semi-retirement, which he intended to spend travelling and gardening.
He was diagnosed with a serious illness in January 2003, however continued attending meetings and dealing with business matters up until his death.

Managing Director, Andy Beetles, said, “The most fitting tribute we can pay to David is to continue to provide the quality and service that he made such an integral part of the company he founded.”

David Price leaves a wife, Diana, and sons Toby and Simon and will be very sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.
