The World Famous Oriental Spa Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

The Oriental Spa in Bangkok å- one of the worldå‘s first hotel spas to provide an all-encompassing spa experience with a focus on rejuvenation of the body, mind and spirit å- this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. Regularly voted Best Spa in the World by Travel & Leisure magazine, as well as Best Spa in Luxury Travel by the Robb Report, Bangkokå‘s exotic riverfront haven is consistently recognised for its award-winning combination of holistic Asian therapies, gracious Thai service and harmonious design elements.


An extension of the guest experience provided by legendary hotel, The Oriental, the spa was established in 1993 in a restored century-old teakwood house. Its approach to wellness is based on ancient Thai traditions that combine meditation and massage with healing Western techniques. In addition, the spa offers half and full-day spa programmes, as well as a three day package that combines accommodation with a full course of spa treatments. Each spa experience at the Oriental Spa takes place in one of the luxurious 14 spa suites accommodating singles and couples and is self-contained with its own shower, steam room and washroom. The Deluxe Spa suites and Oriental Spa suite have their own private sauna and Jacuzzi.

The natural ingredients used in spa treatments draw on the inspiration and medical knowledge of ancient traditions. Fragrant oils, aromatic herbs, plus the juices of fruits and vegetables feature in these unique blends. Herbal formulas are added to protein-rich massage oils of sesame, olive and citronella to cleanse and stimulate skin and muscles. Honey, mint and lavender are basis for an Oriental body glow, while a herbal wrap therapy contains over a dozen ingredients. The natural ingredients are taken from herbs, vegetables and fruits grown on the hills in northern Thailand under the Royal Project which was initiated by His Majesty, the King of Thailand.

The spa’s philosophy believes that beauty begins with a healthy state of mind. As a result, The Oriental Spa has created a meditation room to provide a tranquil environment in which to achieve inner peace. Surrounded by spiritual calm, guests may also receive expert guidance on how to cultivate the full benefits of meditation, with body, mind and soul connection provided in daily yoga and meditation classes.

Spiritual and physical harmony provided by the spa treatments are further enhanced by The Oriental Spa Cuisine, which presents a selection of carefully created Thai and Western dishes that are nutritionally balanced to complement the treatments offered. Spa cuisine programmes are low in calories, fat and cholesterol. Refined sugar is avoided where possible and only moderate amounts of sodium are used. Guests have the flexibility to choose from either daily set meals or from the exquisite a la carte spa menu.

The Oriental Spa is one of the world’s few spas to develop and use its own products. The Oriental Spa Private Label features products using natural extracts and oils taken from herbs, fruits and vegetables from the Royal Project in northern Thailand. The product line includes aromatic massage oils, vigorous scrubs and soothing gels, shampoos and conditioners.

In addition to the 10th birthday celebrations for the Oriental Spa, this year The Oriental, Bangkok celebrates its 127th anniversary as one of the world’s greatest hotels.
