Grand Opening of the Prince Hotel & Residence

February 2003 marks another chapter in the history books of Prince Hotel & Residence Kuala Lumpur. Celebrations for the Grand Opening, seven months after the soft launch in July 2002, took place on what many consider to be an auspicious day in the Chinese New Year.

Owned by Acetrend Corporation Sdn. Bhd., investment in the Hotel and Residence amounted to RM400 million. The newest five-star hotel to open in the last three years, Prince occupies approximately 7,000 sq-m of land and is located on the prestigious Jalan Conlay.

The guest of honour, officiating at the Grand Opening, was the Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism, YB. Dato’ Paduka Abdul Kadir bin Hj. Sheikh Fadzir. The opening ceremony included significant activities, such as dotting of two golden lions’ eyes (which signifies the start of a new life) and breaking of the Sake barrel (a traditional Japanese custom in official ceremonies), together with the all-important showcase presentation of The Plaque, at an occasion which embraced the Malaysia tourism theme - Malaysia Truly Asia!

Mr. Hiroyoshi Yamaguchi, President of Prince Hotels Inc., said at the event, “It is an honour to be able to welcome this magnificent hotel as a member of the Prince Hotel group. I expect that the success of this hotel will elevate even further the Prince Hotel Brand image in Asia”.

Mr. Greg Lee, General Manager of Prince Hotel & Residence Kuala Lumpur, also spoke; “It is a proud and important day for us. In the past seven months we have grown from strength to strength and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our guests and business partners who have supported us thus far. The positive feedback received on our service levels from our guests is a reflection of the warm Malaysian hospitality”.
