The Breakers Revitalises the Timeless Family Summer
New å“Coconut Crewå” Interactive Camp Launched With Summer Season Values
PALM BEACH, Fla.—For families who embrace vacation as an opportunity to reconnect and enjoy shared experiences, The Breakers Palm Beach is launching the Coconut Crew Interactive Camp. This unique and captivating program enables children and their parents to share memorable experiences with each other.
Summer visitors to the oceanfront resort also earn a $150 credit per room, based on a two-night minimum stay and subject to availability, from May 20 - September 18, 2002. The resort credit can be applied towards The Breakers’ most prized amenities, including: its luxury spa, six restaurants and four bars, 36 holes of championship golf, Mediterranean-style Beach Club, 10 tennis courts, as well as the Coconut Crew Interactive Camp for families and children. On Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends, guests earn a $200 resort credit based on a three-night minimum stay. The credit is available on accommodations starting at $199 Sunday - Wednesday and $249 Thursday - Saturday.
Unlike traditional programs of the past that focus on kids-only activities, the Coconut Crew Interactive Camp not only welcomes but encourages parents or adult companions to participate.
“We are hosting a new generation of families at The Breakers who not only desire more time with their children, but more meaningful interactions,” said Richard Hayduk, vice president and resident manager of the oceanfront resort. “Tailored to this burgeoning market, the new Camp revitalizes a timeless concept in family travel - togetherness - by inviting adults to join in the fun. Each day, we offer an enticing menu of fun-filled, organized activities that are ripe with interaction and a high ‘cool’ factor, to which parents and their children are drawn.”

Available seven days a week, the Coconut Crew Interactive Camp is designed for two age groups, flexibly based on children’s developmental skills, recreational and social interests. “Parrots,” ages 3-5, focuses on creativity, imagination, arts and crafts, and hand-eye activities. “Coconuts” for ages 6-12 delivers an engaging program of activities - professional golf and tennis, snorkeling, lawn hockey, soccer and swimming—that sharply contrasts with typically rigid sport instruction.
The Coconut Crew Interactive Camp is scheduled and priced per session or per day (9:00am - 11:00am, 11:00am - 1:00pm, 1:00pm - 3:00pm), with sensitivity to how family/individual preferences and agendas change at the drop of a hat.
Other hallmarks of the Camp are exceptional rainy day activities that bring sunshine indoors for kids of all ages, and Friday night/Family Night for youngsters 3-13, which feature themed activities in the context of a virtual family restaurant. Look out for the Harry Potter Party (crashed by most parents seeking entry to the Potion, Sorcerer or Magic Schools
and a game of quiddich), Breakers Survivor (families and children assigned to tribes for beach olymics) and the Pirates of Palm Beach preparing for the hunt of the incoming ship’s treasure lost ashore.
On Saturdays, Kids Rule! This complementary event competition on the Ocean Lawn pits children against their parents for a game of whiffle ball, long drive, home run derby or mini-carnival where medals are awarded. Lastly, A La Carte Family Time sets up parents and kids to enjoy a private activity together at the multi-faceted Breakers…a snorkeling excursion, croquet tournament, bike riding, and kayaking trip, or even golf and tennis round-robins.
The Camp supports the resort’s pervasive family-friendliness, demonstrated by waiters who offer to take kids away from the table for five minutes just to keep them occupied, to step stools that can be delivered to guest bathrooms for very young clientele.
