Amadeus Qatar becomes 68th National Marketing Company for Amadeus Travel agents in Qatar to benefit from an unprecedented combination of state-of-the-art Amadeus products and excellent customer service.
Amadeus, a leading global distribution system (GDS) and technology provider to the travel industry, has officially opened Amadeus Qatar, its 68th National Marketing Company (NMC).
Akbar Al-Baker, Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, performed the opening ceremony. Also in attendance were Abdul Wahab Teffaha, Secretary General of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO), and for Amadeus, Julia Sattel, Vice President Markets EMEA&LA and Paul de Villiers, Director Markets MEA & CESE.
From the beginning of 2001, Amadeus Qatar has set about establishing a permanent and growing presence in the market. It has already made excellent progress in attracting travel agency interest and gaining new business.
Amadeus Qatar is a joint venture between Amadeus Global Travel Distribution and Qatar Airways. It is the first Amadeus NMC to be established following the decision last year by several AACO members to choose Amadeus as their official GDS (AACO members Royal Air Maroc and Tunis Air had already established NMCs with Amadeus prior to this). NMCs serve the local travel agency market and focus on delivering electronic and Internet travel distribution products and services to travel agencies and their corporate and leisure customers.
Akbar Al-Baker added: “Rapid advances in technology mean irrevocable changes to travel products and service attitudes. Qatar Airways is committed to taking a lead in this and offering travel agents the very best in distribution solutions. Establishing the NMC with Amadeus allows us to better position ourselves in this highly dynamic and evolving market.”
For Amadeus Julia Sattel said, “We are extremely happy and proud to see the hard work of so many people result in the successful creation of Amadeus Qatar. As Amadeus and AACO continue to strengthen their ties, I look forward to further success in Qatar and other AACO markets.”
