Tivoli SecureWay® Policy Director Secures Multi-Million pound e-business project for “The World`s Favourite Airline”.
3 May 2001 * Tivoli Systems Inc., an IBM company, announced today that British Airways has selected Tivoli to provide security management and access control for its new multi-million pound e-business project. The e-business initiative is designed to cut administration costs by millions of pounds per year and drive new business opportunities. Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director will provide British Airways employees and suppliers with secure access to intranet and extranet-based applications and information.
The initial agreement includes 150,000 licences for worldwide users with the potential to expand this for use in other areas. IBM and Tivoli will support British Airways` e-business solution for the next five years.
“The potential security risk was obviously a concern - with potentially millions of users needing access to different information and services,” said Dominic Steinitz, head of Information Security at British Airways. “We feel confident that Tivoli will fulfil the key security requirements, including policy-driven access control and the capability to manage large numbers of users with diverse information and application needs.”
The first project went live on Friday, September 1st for 20,000 users. British Airways plans to expand the system to include Web-based training, recruitment and e-procurement for another 25,000 users. The airline also intends to deploy a voice-activated authentication that integrates with Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director.
“Using Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director, we can truly leverage the Internet to reach both new and existing markets through the most forward-thinking online services,” added Steinitz. “British Airways employees will benefit from the improved management of Web-based information, as we will be concentrating specifically on improving service standards, internal efficiency and consumer choice.”
” Tivoli has worked with British Airways since the beginning of this year in implementing the best security solution for its large-scale e-business project,” said Carl Kessler, senior vice president of Enterprise Solutions at Tivoli Systems Inc. “Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director has already gained wide industry support, and this deal is a testament to its cutting edge security, scalability and management capabilities.”
Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director provides access control management that centralises network and application security policy. Providing fine-grained access control for Web applications and resources without requiring modifications to existing Web-based applications, Tivoli SecureWay Policy Director unites core security technologies around common security policies. This helps reduce implementation time and management complexity, thereby lowering the total cost of secure computing.
