easyJet has just reached another important landmark in the airline’s history by selling three million seats online
The airline started selling seats via the Internet in April 1998 and in October 1999 reached the one million seat mark. Five months later in March 2000, easyJet reached two million seats. However, it has only taken three months to reach the three million seat mark, indicating a huge acceleration in the growth of online sales.
easyJet now sells 70% of its seats online every week - making it one of Europe’s biggest online retailers and reinforcing its position as the “web’s favourite airline”.
easyJet continues its successful strategy of encouraging people to book their seats via the Internet. This is because the Internet is the most cost-effective distribution channel for easyJet. As a low-cost operation, lowering the cost of doing business is essential to the airline’s ability to offer great value fares to passengers.
