BlueTags A/S, a Danish company focused on enabling consumer travel products like luggage, with RFID and Bluetooth?” wireless technologies, named eBags as their exclusive distributor for travel markets within North America and Mexico.
BlueTags new patent pending technology will enable consumers to register their bags online and then electronically sync the bags with their active travel itineraries. If a bag should be lost, positive identification directly to the traveler and their itinerary can be made with a cell-phone or PDA.
“We are excited by BlueTags’ innovative use of this wireless technology,” said Frank Steed, eBags’ Chairman. “We will literally put the ‘e’ into the bag - starting with RFID technology then phasing into Bluetooth over the next year.”
Steed continued, “There are many advantages for consumers and airlines. BlueTags’ technology will help airlines speed up baggage handling, improve routing, reduce missing baggage, reduce flight delays and increase security.” Steed noted that the devices would enable consumers to set bag “theft alarms” via their cell phone or PDA’s, as well as obtain advanced notification of their baggage arriving at luggage carousels.
Carlos Ostby, BlueTags’ President and co-founder, said of the union, “eBags is uniquely positioned to help BlueTags gain distribution for Bluetooth-enabled baggage throughout North America. eBags will help luggage, bag and travel accessory manufacturers take their products to a new level over the next few years, tying bags electronically to airline baggage routing and flight itineraries. We chose eBags for their ability to move quickly and because they have extensive contacts and knowledge within the travel markets.”
‘e’enabled bags, luggage and travel accessories will be available through a variety of outlets including travel suppliers such as airlines, travel agents, global distribution systems as well as online and offline retail stores.
