After a year in development traveldonkey has released its search engine.
The database contains thousands of searchable, up to date, non - biased, reviews written by people from all over the world about their personal travel experiences, all Original Content. These reviews are supported by links to local sources as well as maps and overviews of the area.
traveldonkey.com has many other informative and entertaining features such as live diaries, a message exchange and frequent competitions with some very desirable prizes. They have recently given away prizes to Goa, Mexico and Cuba. Currently there are two round the world flights to be won.
This is a community based site with its membership base of over 20,000 and average page impressions of 140k, built almost entirely on word of mouth.
The site was founded by Sally Meecham who then joined with 3 friends in January 2000 to form Traveldonkey Limited. The site has been funded by personal loans and a loan by the DTI and unlike ‘other’ dotcoms has survived on a very frugal basis.
The site is currently negotiating with potential partners for the licensing of their content.
