Internet technology on a Boeing 747 aircraft

Cathay Pacific Airways and Internet Service Provider Tenzing Communications today announced the successful demonstration of inflight email and Internet technology on a Boeing 747 aircraft.
A text message and a digital photograph was sent in the first demonstration of its kind. Cathay Pacific plans to implement inflight email and Intranet service across its fleet next year.
When the service is introduced in the second quarter of 2001, Cathay Pacific will be the first airline in the world to offer passengers inflight email and Intranet services across its entire fleet.
Tenzing will provide Cathay Pacific passengers with a suite of inflight services including sending and receiving emails and attachments, an onboard Intranet providing “Best of the Web” surfing, and e-Business services.
